Quick Guide to This Article:
Nova Scotia's One-Time Expanded Selection Plan: Retaining In-Province Talent
The Nova Scotia Provincial Government has just announced a one-time expanded selection plan! To address federal quota limitations and precisely fill labor gaps, the provincial government decided to offer more opportunities for applicants already working in the province with expiring work permits.
The core goal of this update is clear: "Retain talent already contributing to Nova Scotia."
Who Benefits from This "One-Time Expanded Selection"?
If you have submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) by June 30, 2026 (inclusive), and your work permit expires in 2026 or earlier, and you meet any of the following conditions, you may be selected:
- Key Sector Workers: Occupations in TEER 0-4, covering professional science, manufacturing, construction, healthcare, natural resources, agriculture, and transportation.
- NS Graduates: Occupations in TEER 0-5.
- Rural Area Workers: Working outside the HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality) in TEER 0-5 occupations.
- Sales and Service (High Wage): Occupations in TEER 0-2 with an hourly wage of $20 or more.
- Any Occupation (High Wage): Any occupation in Nova Scotia with an hourly wage of $27 or more.

Key Reminders and Policy Insights
Proactive Contact and EOI Status
Selected applicants will be directly notified by the provincial government. If you do not receive a notification, your EOI will remain in the pool and be selected according to the original priority occupation categories.
Dynamic Adjustments and Career Planning
The provincial government emphasizes that immigration policies will change with market demand. It is recommended that individuals prioritize career development and not blindly follow policy trends.
International Recruitment Policy
For out-of-province/overseas applicants, Nova Scotia will continue to prioritize selection for in-demand occupations such as healthcare workers and skilled trades.
